Training When You Don’t Feel Like Training

Two days in a row? What is this malarky? Basically sorcery, as far as I’m concerned.

Today, I want to get into the topic of training and going to the gym when you don’t feel like it. I consider myself incredibly lucky, as I don’t typically lack the motivation to workout. It is something I genuinely not only enjoy, but look forward to doing; however, I know that this is not the case for a lot of people.

Gimmicks and Why I Got Involved on a Facebook Post

I’d like to (sarcastically) pat myself on the back for having my last two posts be not quite a month apart, but I’m still trying to figure out where March went, and by the time I’ve processed that, it will be May. Because really, April is almost over. Wow.

Anyway, off of the subject of time, and onto training!

Recently, I saw a post on Facebook that was sponsored from a company that is selling some gimmicky contraption that is supposed to provide resistance training and will give you a butt. Sigh. It featured Kate Hudson doing donkey kicks *cringecringecringe* in booty shorts and a sports bra, and promised to “lengthen, tone and lift your muscles!”

Cringe. So much cringe.

Skill Work & The End of the Open

Happy Hump Day! Where does the time go? I could ask Daylight Savings Time, since that happened not that long ago and I am one of about 16 people who appreciates it. That extra hour means I actually get to leave work and have not only daylight, but sunshine. Hooray!

The last week of the Open is here! It’s insane how quickly these five weeks have flown by, and overall I’ve been very happy with how I’ve done. In my region (Northern California) in the scaled division, I am in 24th place. Not bad out of 865 people! This last workout, 16.4, was as follows:

Daylight Savings Time – I welcome you back, but I know a lot of people don’t.

For me, I love the longer days. As someone with an office job, I spend the majority of my time indoors (huge bummer), staring longingly at the window right in front of me, wishing I could be outside and not cast under enormous fluorescent lights. Yes, losing that hour of sleep is a bummer, but if it means I get to take advantage of the longer days and get some daylight in after work, I am ok with that. Besides, it only takes a day or so to adjust from that “lost” hour of sleep.

How was everyone’s weekend? It’s been super rainy here in California, which is rather uncharacteristic this late in the winter, but we are really in need of the water so I can’t complain too much. After about 5 straight days of it though, I’m more than ready for a break – especially after reading Kelly’s blog about how sunny and spring-like it is in Virginia right now! I need a vacation, stat.

16.1 – Glutes, Glutes & More Glutes

It’s March! Holy crap! What happened?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For starters, 16.1 happened last Friday. Man, was that one tough workout. For those of you wondering, 16.1 = the first workout in the CrossFit Open this year (16 = 2016, .1 = the first workout of 5). The RX’ed version was as follows:

The CrossFit Open – What is it, and why should I do it?

Hey! Happy Monday!

Today might seem like any other regular Monday, but this week is a little different as it’s a big one for the CrossFit community. Why, you ask?

So, what exactly is the Open?

Valentine’s Gains

Happy fake Monday (Tuesday)! It’s always tough coming back to work after a 3-day weekend, especially when the weather has essentially forgotten it’s winter and decides to show up wearing 80° temperatures. I’m not complaining, but it definitely makes me antsy for spring and summer. BRING ON THE TANK TOP AND BOOTY SHORTS.
