Friday Time = Survey Time!

Happy Friday, friends! I feel like it was just the other day it was the day nobody cares about (Tuesday) and realized that Tuesday actually has its own song (see below) and I no longer feel sorry for it.

Any how, back to Friday. I’m borrowing another survey from my girl Kelly over at Kelly Runs for Food, because my coffee hasn’t quite kicked in and I don’t think I can handle too much thought creation yet (yes, I know it’s later in the day, but cut me some slack here!).

Food and Fitness Survey

What did you eat for breakfast?

I had pancakes (yes, I eat pancakes…a lot), fresh berries & what my sister calls “my weird butter coffee”. It’s my own cheap version of the original Bulletproof Coffee.

How much water do you a drink a day?

The short answer…probably not enough. Lately I’ve been bad about hydrating until the afternoon, but I am making it my goal to drink a gallon a day. Right now I typically get about 2/3 of the way through that. I’M WORKIN’ ON IT!

What is your favorite workout?

It’s always a little different at Crossfit, but I would say my favorite benchmark workout would be “Annie” – 50-40-30-20-10 of double unders & sit ups. I typically like anything with power cleans, rowing, double unders and deadlifts.

What is your favorite fruit?

Berries. Lots and lots of berries.

What is your favorite vegetable?

Probably sweet potatoes…you can do a lot with those suckers. If you’re craving something sweet and only have a sweet potato, you can roast it and put some coconut oil, cinnamon and if you’re feeling saucy, a bit of brown sugar. It’s delicious.

What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I love dried fruit, almonds, and avocado toast. I think some (foolish) people consider avocado toast to be a meal, but I think they just aren’t fully grasping the full potential of a snack.

What do you usually eat for lunch?

Lately I’ve been picking up these two salads from Trader Joe’s…and by lately I mean I think I’ve eaten them every day for the last 10 days. I also like to buy the Trader Joe’s premade, ready to serve white meat chicken and add another ounce or so for more protein.

Chicken & arugala salad Broccoli slaw & kale chicken salad

Some days I just eat cereal, because I’m an adult and I can.

What is your favorite and least body part to train?

I love doing ab/core work. I also love legs. I hate training my back because it’s the weakest part of my body and I hate that I can’t do more…but apparently you don’t get better at things by not doing them. I should take my own advice. BENT OVER BARBELL ROWS, HERE I COME.

What are your ‘bad’ food cravings?

Donuts. Ice cream. Sugar. Nom nom nom. Word to the wise…don’t go on Instagram when you’re hungry. It is quite literally the meanest thing you could ever do to yourself.

How often do you eat out?

I’ve definitely cut back a lot in the last few months. Maybe twice, and it’s almost always Chipotle.

How do you stay motivated?

Honestly…I am very grateful that I don’t struggle with staying motivated. It helps that I’ve found something I absolutely love doing, and I have a great support system built in. Crossfit goes on and on about the community aspect of the sport, and it really does play a huge role with a lot of the people who are members. If I don’t show up for a few days, I will undoubtedly get a text message saying “where are you?! Are you ok?! We miss you!” or something to that extent. The other members of my gym hold me accountable, and it helps that I have some genuine friends that I have made there. But finding something that you enjoy and look forward to doing is really helpful in staying motivated.

Also, when you start to see results and major improvements, that is a HUGE motivator. Or when other people start commenting on your progress…f*ck yeah. It feels great.

Who is your biggest supporter?

Probably my friend/coach Alyssa (the cute one on the left). She is so positive and encouraging, it’s almost impossible to not push myself when she’s around. She is in incredible shape and when I first met her, my first thought was “OMG GOALS (insert smiley emoji with heart eyes)”. She is a wonderful coach, and an amazing friend.

Alyssa & I again

Or, as odd as this might sound, my ex boyfriend. He was the one who originally pushed me into starting Crossfit when we were doing long distance in 2013-2014, and while we are no longer together, we are still great friends and he is still really supportive of me in my fitness endeavors. I’m really grateful for both of these people being such strong influences in my life, because I am not always so positive when it comes to myself.

Do you have a gym membership?

I do, at my Crossfit box!

How often do you work out?

5-6 days per week, with occasional double days if I have the time.

Are you a ‘morning’ or ‘night’ workout type of person?

Night person. I applaud those who can get up at 5AM to get their workout done, but for me I need time to hydrate, eat, get focused, and not be rushed. I like to leave my evenings clear for the gym so I can take my time and not feel like I have to leave by a certain time.

Do you have a “cheat” day?

Not really. I try to eat really well 80% of the time, and I leave some leeway in there if there’s something I really want. I know I could be better about my nutrition and I am working on that, but I also like to be a human and have ice cream once in awhile. I feel like having a cheat day enables people to go ape shit and eat a ton of crap all day long, which I think is sort of counter productive. I’d rather leave room for a treat every 2-3 days and not feel like I have to “save” anything. But that’s me, and I suggest that YOU DO YOU, FRIEND. You do do.
